M.E.L.T Program (Class 'A')

Course Overview
By enrolling in the Mandatory Entry Level Training (Class 'A') course, students will gain the expertise and preparation to drive a tractor-trailer and start their journey into the transportation industry once licensed. This program required skills and expertise, and our instructors will train students to be prepared.
Approved as a vocational program under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005

Course Outline
The course would take approximately 5 weeks depending on how prepared a student is.
This program includes all mandatory objectives set forth in the Ministry of Transportation’s Commercial Truck Driver Training Standard (Class A), released July 2016. Subjects of the program include:
- Employment in the Commercial Vehicle Industry
- Vehicle Components & Systems
- Basic Driving Techniques
- Professional Driving Habits
- Vehicle Inspection
- Off-Road Tasks and Maneuvers
- Documents, Paperwork and Regulatory Requirements
- Vehicle Inspection Activities
- Hours of Service Compliance
- Cargo Securement and Loss Prevention
- Handling Emergencies
- Safety Code Standards

Admission Requirements
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Demonstrate a minimum of an Ontario Grade 10 literacy level or equivalent (SLE)
- Must hold a valid G License
- Must pass the Ministry of Transportation Driver's Medical, Visual Examination and the Road Signs Tests
